The Civil Court came to the conclusion that the prohibition of the MSV Maria Sinthyathirai ship restricted, which had been penalised after it went aground in the sandbank close to Kudagiri reef, which is located close to Kaafu atoll Thilafushi, was made in the appropriate manner.
A monetary penalty of three million rufiyaa (MVR) has been levied on the owner of the Maria Sinthyathirai ship restricted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the ship’s incident of running aground in Kudagiri reef in the month of January. In addition, the ship is not permitted to leave the country at this time without permission.
In an effort to have the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) prohibition on the ship’s departure declared unlawful, the Maldivian agent of the corporation filed a case in the Civil Court.
On Monday, the Civil Court issued a ruling that foreign vessels that arrived in the Maldives were not permitted to leave the nation on a regular basis unless they paid their dues to the state. In this particular instance, the fee had not yet been paid.
As a result of the verdict, the ship was subject to a penalty that was imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and it was not permitted to depart since the payment had not been paid. As a result, the court stated that the charge was not successfully proven.
There have been instances in the past where ships have been penalised for running aground.
