A diverse speakers bureau
IMO and WISTA International launched Maritime Speakers bureau this week. The speakers bureau aims to amplify, promote women’s voices in the shipping. They also aim to increase the women speakers in the industry.
The bureau is a project under the IMO-WISTA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on promoting diversity and inclusion in maritime sector.
Furthermore the platform encourage women, inspire them, and educate them.. IMO and WISTA intend to end the traditional all male speaking platform in IMO. Additionally, it will show more diverse role models and will be a source to find speaker in the industry.
How to join
The Maritime Speakers Bureau website is free to join. You can join by signing as a speakers, organizers, or a sponsors. The members are expected to provide a positive commitment to the organization and to the industry. If you are passionate about a field, a thought leader or an expert in a field who wants to share things you can achieve it through the platform. Once registered as a speaker, speakers get email invitation from organizers to speak in forums and are free to accept or decline invitations.
The president of WISTA International Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou said, “WISTA is an international organisation whose mission is to attract and support women, at the management level, in the maritime, trading and logistics sectors. It is our conviction that diversity is one of the key elements for a sustainable future for our industries. Creating this platform in collaboration with the IMO is a fantastic opportunity to help the wider maritime sector attract more diverse talent in an international industry. Women in our industry will be able to show their interest in participating in panels. Becoming more visible and inspiring others. At the same time, event organizers will have the tools to make their panels more inclusive, diverse and interesting.”
