Maldives Ports Ltd. (MPL) has introduced a cutting-edge Sea-to-Air Cargo Transhipment Service for swift deliveries, combining the strengths of sea and air transport modes to offer a seamless and efficient solution for the rapid delivery of goods.
According to MPL’s official statement, this new service aims to provide customers with the reliability and cost-effectiveness of sea transportation, seamlessly integrated with the speed and convenience of air transport. The hybrid model is meticulously crafted to ensure swift and proficient cargo handling, meeting the diverse needs of businesses and industries across the region.
In a bid for transparency, MPL has disclosed the tariffs for this service. The company will implement a charge of US$605.68 for a standard 20-foot container and US$752.51 for a standard 40-foot container as the sea-to-air international transhipment fee.

The announcement of this pioneering venture was made during a recent press briefing by MPL’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim. Ibrahim emphasized the substantial potential for transporting goods shipped to the Maldives to be further conveyed to other countries via air, aligning seamlessly with the Mohamed Muizzu administration’s vision to diversify commercial ventures.
Expressing confidence in the transformative impact of the Sea-to-Air Cargo Transhipment Services, Ibrahim underscored their potential to significantly boost MPL’s revenue and foreign currency earnings. Currently, MPL is in active negotiations with several airlines to expand the reach and accessibility of this innovative service, promising enhanced connectivity and efficiency on global trade routes.
