At the Male’ Port Limit, a vessel ran aground on the Feydhoo Island reef. At approximately 8 a.m. today, the wind speed at Male’ anchorage surged to 68-70 knots. Showers with gusts of wind were passing through.
At Feydhoo Island Reef, a tug boat named TB Marina dragged her anchor and ran aground.
During the inquiries regarding the Vessel that ran aground, it was discovered that there were no oil leaks in the area of the TB Marina. MNDF Coastguard was requested by Male’ Harbour Control at 0930 hours to help in establishing the position of TB Marina and Jazeera Reefer.
A collision occurred when another two vessels anchored within a two-cable swinging distance dragged anchor. MV Jazeera Reefer’s bow collided with a tanker vessel called BOC1 5000DW, in the same location, according to VHF communications between Harbour control and MV Jazeera Reefer. Best Oil Company belong to Happy Market, a Maldives-based company, owns the MT BOC1.
The Jazeera Reefer came dangerously close to colliding with the Whale Submarine Dock, which is stationed west of Male’. They had difficulties heaving up the anchor when the Engine was ready to move the vessel. As a result, the ship’s officer informed Harbour Control that the vessel would be shifted whenever the weather improved.
According to the Maldives Meteorological Service website, the Male’ area is on “White Alert.”
TB Marina was instructed to contact the local agent and begin the casualty recovery process.
