Maldives State Shipping (MSS), a subsidiary of the State Trading Organization (STO), has opened up opportunities for seagoing jobs.
MSS has announced job openings on its second chartered container vessel for the first time. MSS was established with the goal of promoting maritime and seafaring activities in the Maldives. However, due to the nature of the charter party, no locals were employed as seagoing jobs on board the vessel at the time.
MSS team found it difficult to penetrate the box market with its vessel Mv Iberian Express due to the existing feeder vessels. For the record, this 1118TEU vessel carried 16TEUs at times. The previous charter party was terminated, and the newly hired vessel can carry 400TEUs.
The Iberian Express set sail from Singapore on October 5th, bound for Taicang, China. IBERIAN EXPRESS (IMO: 9405100) is a Container Ship that was built in 2008 (13 years ago) and sails under the flag of Gibraltar.
Initially, the state-owned freight forwarder planned to deliver a new vessel that would only be operated by MSS. However, due to the covid constraints, the plan failed and the state went into economic default.
