A second vessel for the MSS fleet will be the largest vessel ever delivered to a Maldivian shipowner. Maldives State Shipping (MSS) is a subsidiary of the corporate giant State Trading Organization (STO).
Mr.Abdulla Saeed, Managing Director of MSS, stated in a Public Service Media program titled “Rajje Miadhu” that building materials are a major imported commodity to the Maldives. As a result, MSS is gearing up to enter the market by acquiring a bulk carrier.
We will be endorsing the transaction closing paperwork in the next two or three days, and she is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives in loaded condition towards the end of this month (April) or at the beginning of the following month (May).

MSS also intends to purchase a used 400–500 TEU geared container vessel and has solicited expressions of interest from possible vendors. On March 17, 2021, an expression of interest was requested, with a deadline of March 25, 2021, and a reference number of MSS-ANN/2021/02.

Mr. Saeed, MD of MSS, stated that this new vessel will be the largest ever delivered by a Maldivian shipowner. According to mainstream media, her overall length is 190 meters and she has a displacement of 4400 GT. A vessel of 190m LOA, however, cannot have 4400GT.
He also stated that the new vessel’s crew has been selected. In this sense, the majority of the crew will be Maldivians, with the exception of four foreigners.
MSS has begun container feeder service from Colombo to Male’ by using its own vessel at the end of 2021. MSS Galena has a capacity of 680 TEUs. Awaiting the maiden voyage of the second vessel for the MSS fleet.
