Maldives State Shipping (MSS) announced the purchase of their new container vessel, MSS Graphene earlier this week. MSS the shipping subsidiary company of the State Trading Organization (STO) was formed to help the country with a reliable national shipping line.
The company has announced job opportunities to recruit staff for the vessel with jobs of different levels and diversity, including, Master, Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, Able Seaman, Bosun, Cook, Electrician, Mess boy, Oiler, Third Engineer, Third Officer, Welder, Chief Officer, and Second Officer, with salaries starting from MVR 115,650. The deadline for job applications is before 1230hrs on May 19, 2022. The application can be submitted online via the STO website https://sto.mv/Career.
MSS also purchased a bulk carrier last month, which is set to arrive this month.
The vessel is the second container vessel MSS purchased after the company was established in February 2020. The company initially started with a chartered container vessel of 1100 TEUs, purchasing the first vessel MSS Galena afterward in 2021, which has a carrying capacity of 680 TEUs with 60 reefer containers.

According to MSS, the new container vessel has the same carrying capacity as the old one: 680 TEUs. The container vessel, which is set to arrive next month, will broaden the company’s work speeding up to reach the company’s target of becoming the leading shipping company in the industry within the region.
The company, which is already well published locally, is widening its horizons with the purchase of Container vessels and Bulk carriers. The Maldives has a history of becoming the largest shipping fleet in the region and MSS aims to reclaim the proud title and become the largest shipping company in the region. The company has been rapidly progressing since its establishment, with annual revenue of 2021 increasing 113% more compared to 2020.
